Purpose of the course unit

1) to provide knowledge of the Chinese phonetics (5 tones), vocabulary and grammar necessary to achieve Chinese language level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; 2) to develop basic receptive and productive abilities of the Chinese language (reading, listening, speaking and writing).

Chinese language structure and its main features. Chinese sounds (5 tones), characters (pin yin) and its peculiarities. The main rules of pronunciation.

Semester work assessment criteria (preparation for the classes and the work in the classroom): 1) participation in the classroom activities; 2) performance of homework tasks; 4) performance of additional tasks and their oral presentation.

After completion of topics 1-5

Mid-term assessment I consists of integrated knowledge and skills test. It checks students’ knowledge of business and management terms in use, reading, listening comprehension and writing skills. Test results are assessed in 1 – 10-point system: 100-95 % correct points – 10; 94-85 % – 9; 84-75% – 8; 74-65% – 7; 64-55 % – 6; 54-45 % – 5; 44-35%– 4; 34-25 % – 3; 24-15 % – 2; 14-5 % – 1; 4-0 % – 0.

During the examination session of spring semester

Examination paper (written assessment paper) checks students’ vocabulary and grammar knowledge and listening comprehension and writing abilities.
